Braeside High Newsletter - Week 6

9th October 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As we conclude week 6, we reflect on the many great opportunities students have had to better their learning and think about their future.

Future Focus Week

This week, the whole school took part in the “Future Focus Week’’. Braestars were guided towards considering their career aspirations through a variety of planned activities. The week provided an opportunity for Sixth Form students, Year 12 in particular, to lead other students in considering their future career choices.

Students in different year groups engaged in a range of activities including personality tests, career mapping and professional talks. The curtain came down on Friday with presentations from over ten guest professionals representing the aviation, hospitality, business, law, human resource and management.

This was a great opportunity for the Year 12 students to develop their mentorship skills that will go a long way to boost their personal profiles. These are crucial for the success of their university application process.

This is what the students had to say:

‘‘I enjoyed engaging with Middle School students during the future focus career week. Teaching them how to create a curriculum vitae and having an idea of what they would like to pursue in the future was a wonderful experience’’. Sarah I. Year 12R

‘‘I believe I have helped the younger generation of Braeside students gauge their future and think about their careers’’. Bethel O. Year 12A

‘‘Career week gave me the opportunity to work with younger students which I really enjoyed. Moreover, the pilot who came to speak to us was very helpful and answered questions regarding careers and education. It would be amazing if we had another career week’’. Ivy M. Year 12A

Year 8 MFL Trip to Alliance Française

On Wednesday, 6th October 2021, Year 8 students visited Alliance Française Media Centre (Mediatheque) to learn how to use different kinds of media to improve their level of mastery of French. They were also advised on the opportunities to study in France. The students engaged in some board and card games as well as video games in French.

Year 10 Dinner

Friday evening was decorated by glamorous Year 10 Students who came together to share a meal in a candle lit dinner. This was aimed at strengthening bonds among students within the year group, promoting their mental wellbeing and inspiring them as new members of the Key Stage 4 fraternity. During the dinner, students participated in a range of activities and showcased a plethora of talent. The event was epitomized by two guests, from the parents’ community, who gave inspiring motivational speeches. It was indeed a memorable experience for the year 10 Braestars.

Have a nice weekend.

Regards,

Mr. Leonard Mwendwa
