Braeside High School Newsletter Week 10

6th November 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We hope you are doing well. We wish to thank all Parents/Guardians who took time and attended the virtual Parents/Teachers consultations. It has been a whole week of meetings and we want to thank you for the support you gave us through the process.

Allow us to bring to your attention a number of events lined up in the term which include;

Battle of the Crows Colloquium (BCC)

During the course of this term, upper school students have been engaged in concerted research in preparation for the upcoming symposium dubbed ‘Battle of the Crows Colloquium’, which is a scholarly competition designed to extend students’ knowledge, skill, innovation, collaboration and creativity as they explore emerging global issues. It also seeks to sharpen communication, data and presentation skills in our Braestars.

We wish all the contestants the very best as they prepare for the preliminaries slated for 9th and 10th November and the finals scheduled for 19th November 2021.

Here is what some participants had to say:

‘‘BCC has enabled me to perfect my research and presentation skills through working with people both as a mentor and a collaborator’’. Sheila M. Year 12A

‘‘I have enjoyed getting to know and working with my mentee. I have learnt the importance of team work as well as the valuable communication skills’’. Nicole N. Year 12R

‘‘I have enjoyed the adrenaline rush that comes with researching and writing on a topic I am very passionate about. Working with my mentor has also been far enriching!’’. Paula-Jayne M. Year 10S

Sports Days

In the coming week, we have sports day for Upper School (Year 10 - 13) on Wednesday, 10th November 2021 starting at 9:30am to 12:40pm. This will be followed by the Middle School (Year 7 - 9) on Friday, 12th November 2021 at 9:30am to 12:40pm. We look forward to seeing parents coming to support and cheer our Braestars.

The Black Rose

We invite you to join us on Friday, 26th November 2021 at 5:00pm as our Braestars showcase their acting skills in our Annual School Production dubbed ‘The Black Rose’.

Synopsis

Tim is caged like a bird with clipped wings by his mother. He can flutter around his cage but cannot escape, he isn’t even sure if he would want to escape even if he got the chance. Tim’s mother perceives her son’s state of disability as a source of ridicule and a figure of shame to the family, yet this boy bears a talent that no ordinary boy of his age can possess. Who will bandage his broken wings and make him fly like other kids?

Christmas Fill A Bucket

Our Braestars will also be reaching out to the less fortunate in our community through the ‘Christmas Fill a Bucket’ initiative. They will be collecting and donating dry food stuffs for this initiative. Other Braestars are planning to improve the literacy skills of their counterparts at Lavington Secondary School (a local neighbouring school) by donating reading books and starting a small library in the school. There will be a book donation for those old books the Braestars no longer use at home for this initiative too. Quite a busy term for our Braestars. We therefore appeal for your support as they also engage themselves in their daily routine of studies.

They will later be singing their hearts out at the end of the year during The Christmas Concert.

Resumption of After School Activities

Braeside prides itself in a robust array of clubs and activities which ensure the students’ holistic development through nurturing their interests, talents and career paths. After the much deserved break from mid-term, we would like to announce the resumption of after-school activities; sports coaching, swimming and afternoon clubs. These are available to students and they are encouraged to take up an activity that will help to enrich the co-curricular spheres of their learning.

School Uniform

We are getting concerned with the rate at which our lost property section is filling up with unclaimed school uniform items. Most of the items are not labelled making it hard for us to identify the owners. For those who have not labelled their uniforms, please do so.

PE Kit

Please ensure your child has the correct PE Kit which includes; School PE t-shirt, short/skort or girls’ tights, socks or tracksuit(optional). Kindly note the school fleece is not part of the school prescribed sportswear. Alternatively, your child can come to school in full school uniform and thereafter change into games kit for his/her lesson.

Have a nice weekend.

Regards,

Mrs. Hilder Chacha
