Braeside High School Newsletter - Week 7

16th October 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Our Mission

We help our children discover the fulfilment that comes through learning, in a fun and caring environment. Our teachers inspire students to be confident individuals, responsible global citizens and successful life-long learners.

It is always marvellous to see our school mission enacted. There has been a real buzz this week and we are delighted to see so many happy faces in school.

Clubs’ Week

There are over thirty clubs that are offered in school. How alluring it was to see a thoroughly enjoyable clubs’ week in an impressive array of activities ranging from ball games to board games and indoor activities.

Educational Trips

Es ist sonnig! The German students had travelled off the school grounds to learn more about animals at Animal Orphanage, a home for wild animals who were either harmed in their habitat or didn’t even have one to begin with. This is what the students had to say:

‘‘It was a swift bus ride to the orphanage and once we arrived, we were welcomed by our tour guide. We were surrounded by vast green grounds and safe security from the animals. We are also aware that the pandemic is ongoing, meaning we remained precautious at all times about wearing our masks and other safety protocols.

The first animals we saw were a group of helmeted guinea fowls. Once they saw us approach, they begun to croak. This was a form of communication for the birds. As our trip continued, animals as big as the African buffalo and small like the genet crossed our eyes. Did you know a crocodile has 66 teeth and the strongest jaws?

It was absolutely pleasurable to travel outside school to learn more about the world around us. We also thank the school for taking time to educate us on the animals.’’ Letesia A. Year 8N

‘‘We saw all sorts of animals except elephants, what they feed on, their habitats, weight, height and their life span.’’ Natasha M. Year 7K.

Health and Safety

The health and well-being of our pupils, guardians, staff, volunteers and the overall community is our highest concern. We want to extend our sincere gratitude to all the stakeholders, who in following our Pandemic Response Protocols, came together to ensure that the wellbeing of all remained paramount.

Young Vocalists

We celebrated great success in school following the outstanding results of our young vocalists. Zawadi D. was ranked 3rd overall junior category, while Cliffe Z. was ranked the 1st in the senior category.

This was a great opportunity for our students to showcase their vocal talent in Music.

'Use what talent you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best.'' Henry Van Dyke

Rhino Cup Debate

This Thursday, Braeside School emerged victorious in the second round of the Annual KAIS Rhino Cup Debate. The winning team who opposed the motion ‘That Financial Education Should be Mandatory’ was well represented by Hafsah C. Imani K. and Estime G. We congratulate our students for their hard work and dedication.

Non Uniform Day/Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Students wore home attire on Wednesday to create awareness on breast cancer. They made monetary contributions, which will be donated towards childhood cancer treatment.

Internationalism—Sustainable Development Goals

Zero Hunger

This term, we embarked on a journey towards sustainability through the adoption of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with specific focus on SDG 2, Zero Hunger.

Here are some views from Braestars on how you can contribute towards Zero Hunger:

“Encourage everyone to only serve what they can finish to reduce food waste.” Joseline W. Year 12Y

“As the parent community, work with the school to raise funds that can be used to support communities in need and work with organizations such as the Red Cross. Also, we should not waste food.” Lola J. Year 11S
