Braeside High School Week 10 Newsletter

14th November 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian,

This week we welcomed back to physical school the Year 10 students. We are delighted to have them back and also happy at how quickly they have picked up the observance of the hygiene and safety measures.

Christmas Fill A Bucket Campaign

The festive season is fast approaching and the student council will be running the “Fill A Bucket” campaign in support of the less fortunate. We invite all parents and guardians to be part of this campaign by supporting the students and make this year’s campaign even more successful.

REMEMBRANCE DAY “Lest we forget”

Braestars were at the forefront in marking this day by wearing their poppies, observing a two minutes silence at exactly 11am and learning more about the effects of wars. Remembrance Day or The Armistice Day is observed every year on 11th of November in all commonwealth member countries. This day is commemorated in memory of all soldiers who died in all battles that were significant in bringing peace to the world.

How has it been so far?

Below are views of some of our students who are attending physical school;

At first it was scary but then when I got to school everyone was acting normal, there were sanitizers everywhere so I stopped overthinking”. Jordanna N. Year 12A

“It's clear to see that despite the pandemic, Braeside has remained an amazing school. Being in school for almost a week, I have seen a concerted effort by everyone to remain safe”. Moses O. Year 13A

“It has been a very good experience; all the protocols such as social distancing are kept very well. I find it a safe and more productive environment”. Lakshmi N. Year 12A

EAMUN

World Federation of United Nations Association Model United Nations (WIMUN) is the most accurate and realistic simulation of real UN procedures and is conducted 3 times yearly worldwide.

Ananya P, 11K took part in this year’s fall online conference which was earlier slated to take place in Geneva. She was drafted into the Economic and Social Council Committee of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (ECOSOC CCPCJ) and represented Vietnam in the discussion about “Wildlife crime and its impact on global health (and the spread of zoonotic diseases)”.

WIMUN has helped her to further develop consensus building, diplomacy and collaborative skills. It was a great learning opportunity for her and we congratulate her for achieving such a great milestone.

Rhino Cup

On Thursday, 12th November, our avid debaters displayed their gallantry in this year’s 2nd and final round of KAIS Annual Debating Challenge. Well done to the talented team represented by Elim T, Junaid C and Jordanna N, who perceptively opposed the motion “That people should not have more than two children’’ securing the runners up position against Brookhouse, Karen. Indeed, we are thrilled to witness the terrific growth and skills our delegation has acquired in their period of preparation. Their involvement in this enriching challenge serves them significant erudition now and in the future. ‘Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn’-Benjamin Franklin.
