Braeside High School Week 2 Newsletter

19th September 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and acknowledge some of the amazing work which is being undertaken by our students remotely. We understand that remote learning is a very different experience from what normally happens in school on a daily basis and it has been encouraging to see the commitment of our learners.

We continue to work hard to ensure that our students are fully supported and that the quality of learning materials we use and feedback we provide helps to support them in their learning journey. As we continue to move forward, your input and feedback as parents and guardians is most welcome.

Whilst being online is beneficial for continued learning and staying connected with family and friends during this period, the school recognises many parents may feel concerned about the activities and content their children are accessing. It is important to have regular conversations about staying safe online and to encourage your child(ren) to speak to you if they come across something worrying online.

Student Leadership

We have two levels of student leadership; prefects and the student council. Prefects are selected after applying and going through an interview process with members of staff. The prefects’ role is to guide their peers in observance of the school’s code of conduct while in school and during trips. A team of 23 prefects has been selected for this academic year. Next week, the students will elect class representatives virtually and the following week they shall elect members of the executive committee.

Student council representatives find out the opinions of the student body on lots of different issues such as school trips, school uniform, school rules, improvements to facilities and how to get involved with the community. Feedback from students is discussed at council meetings held at regular times throughout each term with a senior teacher as an adviser. The council’s resolutions are then forwarded to the Headteacher. Through these two bodies, we continue to nurture leadership skills in our students.

Thank you for your continued and invaluable support.

Have a nice weekend.

Regards,

Mr. Joel Ndungu
