27th March 2021
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As we come towards the end of another challenging term, I would like to offer our collective thanks once again for the support you have given to your children, the staff and the school. As always, we continue to place the children at the centre of every decision and action we take, and it has been important for us to work together. We are grateful for your support during these unprecedented times and look forward to continuing working in partnership with you.
IGCSE Coursework
Finally the IGCSE examinations are here. This week, Physical Education and Design and Technology finalised their coursework examinations. PE students spent time in the field as they were observed and recorded while they played different games. On the other hand, the DT students spent most of their time in the DT laboratory. The same goes for those who study Food and Nutrition as they spent time planning in preparation for their practicals.
Cultural Day
Cultural day gives us an opportunity to celebrate each others different and unique backgrounds. Students have a chance to showcase diversity through multiculturalism in arts, music, fashion and food. Braeside High School marked it’s 2021 Cultural Day on 25th March with spectacular cultural events to appreciate cultures beyond our borders. The day was remarkable with students and staff beaming in their colourful native attires that showcased different cultures from across the globe.
With these activities and attires, our students and staff demonstrated and promoted virtues of a diverse but united school - Braeside. Amazing displays and activities depicting the culture of various nationalities highlighting their food, customs and traditions. Indeed the moments and events by the students were memorable. This is what some of the students had to say:
‘‘During cultural week, we learnt about different cultures, their food and dressing. We brought cultural food and made ourselves feel at home. We got to listen to cultural music during form period and lessons’’. By Maryanne O. Year 7K
‘‘In Braeside, we always celebrate cultural diversity and respect people’s cultures and beliefs. This week we spent our form periods and other lessons doing activities based on culture. Most of the activities involved speaking our mother tongue. On Thursday, we had our cultural day. Both students and teachers dressed up in their cultural wear and they got to display a variety of foods from different cultures. It was a spectacular day’’. By Dael O. Year 8N
‘‘Cultural week was spectacular. We did fun and interesting things. I enjoyed the week and I am sure everyone experienced internationalism which is one of our guiding statements. We learnt that equality and internationalism play a big role in our lives’’. By Mya W. Year 7S
