Braeside High Week 8 Newsletter

27th February 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian,

It was great to see our students back to school after the mid-term break. We hope you had a chance to relax and spend quality time together. Here is our weekly update:

Covid Protocols

As we continue monitoring and observing the Covid protocols within the Braeside community, allow me to remind us of some important aspects that you can support us from home:

¨ If a student has been in 'Close Contact' with a 'Confirmed Case', they should not come into school for a period of 10 days from the last ‘Close Contact' and/or until they get a negative test result, provided the test was administered a minimum of 5 days from the last ‘Close Contact’.

¨ If a student exhibits flu-like symptoms, including coughing and headaches, kindly do not send them to school until treated.

Please support us by also reminding your child the importance of adhering to the covid protocols at all times.

Online Parent-Teacher Consultation

We have now scheduled the above meetings starting next week Tuesday, 2nd to Tuesday, 9th March 2021 except weekends. The meetings will be held virtually using a new platform called whereby.com. Kindly check your email for more information on how to book an appointment.

New Cover Teacher

Please join us in welcoming a new cover teacher Ms. Ruth Monyoncho who is stepping in for Ms. Nancy Ngei. She comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience in teaching English Language and Literature.

Year 12 Active Service Week

We would like to thank the Year 12 students who were involved in the active service week. They selflessly offered themselves to help out in school, especially in teaching and learning activities. They demonstrated utmost decorum and displayed mature positive attitude. In the end, they had fun and acquired some life skills. Here is what some of the students had to say;

"I got to experience another side of school through teaching. It was delightful to interact with my peers, offer guidance and gain new information. Overall, I enjoyed this week and hope for another similar experience". Daisy K. Year 12R

"It was a good experience as I was able to apply the knowledge from past classes to help my younger schoolmates" . Reuben O. Year 12A

I found active service to be an enjoyable experience. As an artist, I especially enjoyed assisting students taking IGCSE Art" . Daniel K . Year 12A

"Teaching students in Year 7 especially, made me understand the responsibility and influence I have as someone whom they look up to. It was a learning opportunity in overall" . Michelle G. Year 12A

"Assisting with the PE lessons in Year 7 and 9 reminded me that physical activities should be fun and that teamwork is crucial in sports and everyone should exercise more". Petra M. Year 12R

EAMUN Conference

Our students took part in the 39th Annual EAMUN Conference. This time it was virtual. Participants streamed in with excitement and drive, with open minds ready to internalize everything they possibly could, ready to debate. This year’s theme, ‘A Whole New World , Change, Adopt, Thrive’, resonated with the students as they have seen how living in new and unprecedented times has positively affected their ability to change and adopt so as to succeed.

Braeside School once again scooped awards in the various committees. Noemie N. (Year 11C) was voted the best securitary, Estime G. (Year 12A) got an award for the best delegate in Special Summit Committee, Nicole M. (Year 12A) was the best speaker in Historical Decisions Committee and Justine K. (Year 11N) held the post of a Junior Chair. This is how their experience was:

"The divergence in having this year's EAMUN conference online has been a fascinating experience. Being a Junior chair has taught me that a future with freedom, courage and mindfulness is not only ours to demand but to institute" . Justine K. (Junior Chair)

"My role as Head Securitary in a virtual conference came with new experiences as well as challenges. Although this year brought a lot of change, it was this change that made the experience unique and unforgettable! However, I do hope that next year we will get to see each other physically" . Noemie N. (Head Securitary)

Ks3 Digital Literacy Challenge

From Wednesday 24th to Friday 26th February 2021, students from Year 7-9 took part in the Digital Literacy Challenge. After a cruising battle of wits, the year 9 team emerged the most techno savvy class in the Middle School.

As part of assessment, students are challenged to do a range of activities. For example, our Year 10 Braestars Andrew M, Jo-Anne M, Mark O. and Yaseen W. did an artistic depiction of a character in the IGCSE set book, Arthur Miller's The Crucible. Congratulations for a job well done.
