Primary School Kiswahili Day

20th March 2018

We held our Kiswahili Day on Friday, 16th March 2018. The theme of the day was Kenya Nchi Nzuri, Kiswahili Lugha Yangu.’ All students from Early Years Foundation Stage to Year 6 were involved. The following were the activities undertaken by each year group;

EYFS, Year 1 & 2 (Singing games)

EYFS – Mabata wanaogelea

Year 1 – Zuum, zuum nyuki lia wee

Year 2 – Kuna mtu shambani

Year 3 & 4 (Swahili foods and drinks)

Research about different foods and drinks by the Swahili people including;

  • Mishkaki
  • Mahamri
  • Vitumbua
  • Kuku wa kupaka
  • Biryani
  • Pilau
  • Samaki wa kupaka
  • Chapati
  • Mbaazi
  • Chips mayai
  • Ukwaju
  • Madafu
  • Mabuyu

Year 5 (Swahili cultural dress)

  • Dera
  • Kanga
  • Buibui
  • Kanzu
  • Kofia
  • Shanga

Year 6 (Swahili history)

Research on the origin of Kiswahili language.

We also had guest performers from Kilimani Primary School who recited a shairi entitled ‘Kiswahili Kitukuzwe.’
