6th February 2021
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The whirlwind of the year has evidently caught up with us. This fifth week of the term brought with it a buzz of activities among which were: Mock examinations for Year 11, 12 and 13 students, MSMUN Conference and the commemoration of the World Cancer Day.
MSMUN Conference
The 27th Annual MSMUN Conference took place this week from Tuesday, 2nd February to Friday, 5th February 2021. This year's theme was: A Whole New World; Change, Adapt and Thrive. Unlike the previous years, the conference was done virtually. The Braeside delegation represented the following UN member states: Ukraine, Philippines, Burkina Faso and Turkey. The experience, as always, was unequivocally rewarding. Here's a sample of some of the delegates' sentiments:
The MSMUN conference that took place this week was an amazing experience. I was able to gain knowledge on numerous topics in Ecology and as well, socialize with delegates from other schools. It enlightened me and allowed me to listen to and acknowledge other people’s perspectives and opinions. This year was different as the conference was held online due to COVID-19, which did not at all ruin the experience for me although I still miss some aspects of the physical conference such as being able to physically interact with others. Nevertheless, it was a truly memorable experience and I look forward to attending the conference again next year. Serah W. Year 9S
Participating in the 27th Annual MSMUN Conference has been a very rewarding experience for me, despite it being a virtual conference as opposed to the traditional physical gathering. This made the debating a little different. Nonetheless, I have learnt quite a lot from debating many resolutions in my committee. I am grateful for this experience. Almond M. Year 8C
My experience in MSMUN was extra-ordinary. It was a real learning experience. It really helped me stand up for what I believe in. I also learned how to accept criticism on my opinions. This year's conference expanded my perspective on current situations in the world. It was also interesting and an eye-opener to listen to other delegates points of view on the same issues. Aparna N. Year 7 Breakfast
Year 7’s enjoyed having breakfast in school and this is what some of them had to say:
‘‘We were allowed to eat, talk and listen to music that morning. Everyone enjoyed their favourite cuisine’’. By Sarah K. Year 7N
‘‘What a lovely way to start off the day. The birds were chirping, the sun shining and the breeze was cool and gentle. We sat on our mats and lesos in the field on the lovely grass. We were all excited and had our picnic baskets with us. We all sat in a large circle while obeying the Covid 19 protocols and enjoyed our breakfast, after which we headed back to class for our first lesson’’. By Neema K. Year 7C
Students Write up on Sixth Form Valentine Bake Sale
BTEC and A Level students are planning this year’s Annual Valentine’s Bake sale, which is scheduled for Friday, 12th February.
There shall be a variety of products on sale: flowers, chocolates and sweets. There shall also be fun activities at a small fee: gaming that students can participate in.
This bake sale has been the most challenging to plan in the history of Valentine’s bake sales due to Covid 19 restrictions, which have led to the cancellation of some products usually sold and some activities. This has necessitated creative brainstorming to ensure that the fun and excitement of the day are sustained while the students are kept safe.
As of now, the planning is going well and everyone is enjoying the experience. This shows how strong and determined the BTEC and A Level students are, despite the challenges thrown at them. We can do anything we put our minds to, if we all work together as a team and don’t give up.
In conclusion, we are all looking forward to the event and hopefully it will be successful and exciting. We all hope that every student participating will enjoy and have an amazing experience.
Without a doubt, the 2021 bake sale experience shall remain etched in the minds of the sixth form students who have had their creativity and organisation skills sharpened. We invite the entire Braeside community to join us and make this year’s bake sale a memorable one.

It takes the time and effort of the Braeside sixth-form students to plan, organise and manage the Valentine’s bake sale each year.
For the 2021 bake sale to be a success, we need your support. The event is aimed at giving back to the community and doing our part to make even the smallest bit of difference in the lives of those around us.
All the proceeds from the bake sale will go towards paying school fees for a group of selected students of Lavington High School whose parents struggle to pay for their education despite them being capable and willing learners.
We are seeking the support of our parents in our endeavour to enable us make this bake sale a success.
“Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.” Kathy Calvin
