13th February 2023
Braeside Scouts together with their parents and scout leaders met on Saturday, 4th February morning at school ready to leave for Rimpa Wildlife Estates Conservancy in Rongai. The main objective of the night out trip was for the parents and scouts to enjoy bonding sessions while camping. Secondly, for parents to have a sneak peek of what scouts do and learn. The Scouts Parents committee organized the event.
Akela Luvai-Scout Leader
This is what some parents and scouts had to say;
The thing that amazed me was that Rimpa Estate is almost 2000 acres. I liked playing Frisbee, the food and spending time with my family and other scouts.
Jaden M.-Year 5 Boy Scout
The place was very dry. I was grateful my mum came with me to support my learning and encourage me not to be shy. I enjoyed exploring new things such as learning how to throw the Frisbee and seeing the animals. Going down for a walk with Akela Pepsi and looking for hyenas was my favourite activity.
Jasmine V. -Year 4 Girl Scout
The scouts/parents night out was a great opportunity to hang out with our children and to see how hard the Akelas work to make camps interesting and useful. The activities were fun and varied. The pitching up of tents tested our coordination and communication as families. There was no dull moment. As parents, we had time to connect, so, we slept at 1.00am. The food was great!

Braeside Scouts Troop 17 had its first parents and scouts night out on Saturday 3rd February at Rimpa Estates. Just shy of 70 people in total participated in what was 24 hours of fun in the outdoors. Parents and scouts participated in team building activities, team naming, team song creation and expressed their own creativity over the campfire.
Surrounded by giraffes, gazelles and hidden snakes and hyenas, memories were made for a
lifetime. The parents and scouts night out was the first of its kind not only at Braeside but also for all of Westlands District and is sure to be repeated in future. Thank you to the organising committee, chefs, porters, Akelas, parents, and scouts for making it a success.
