Dear Parent/Guardian,
I hope that this newsletter finds you fit and well. I would like to thank you, the students and the staff for being supportive as we continue in the first term of this academic year.
It is currently full steam ahead up at Braeside High School; the learners have now settled to the school’s routine. This term, our focus is to encourage habits that promote academic attainment and good mental health; this includes time management, skills development and improved mindfulness.
Co-Curricular Activities
Our sports coaching and clubs program is up and running for this term. Clubs and co-curricular activities are a fantastic way to get active or stay involved in school. Please encourage your child to participate in the diverse extracurricular opportunities we offer at Braeside.
Student Leadership
The Student Council is a body of students elected by their peers in a formal election setting. These students represent the views of all the pupils and consider ways to improve their school. The student council is made up of 2 representatives from each year group and an executive committee, who discuss matters about their education and school life and raise any concerns with the Senior Leadership Team.
Within the next two weeks, nominations, campaigns and elections for the various posts will be conducted. We aspire that students will conceptualize and develop an understanding of how democracy works as they elect their representatives.
Students desiring to serve as prefects had an opportunity to apply for the various positions and to be interviewed by a panel of teachers. We firmly believe that young people have unique perspectives on learning, teaching and schooling in general and we encourage students to think about how to enact their understanding of human rights and responsibilities in practical ways. Besides giving them direct experience of debating and negotiating issues, these opportunities also allow learners to see the 'bigger picture' of how the school is run.
Wishing you a nice weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. Joel Ndungu
