Dear Parent/Guardian,

We have scheduled the above meetings starting next week, Monday, 7th June 2021 to Friday, 11th June 2021 from 3:50pm - 6:30pm. The meetings will be held virtually and we request that you take a few minutes to set up the platform and make bookings through www.schoolinterviews.co.uk. This will be for Years 7, 8, 9.5, 10 and 12 BTEC. There will be no after school clubs and activities for the entire week.

IGCSE/GCE Examinations

The IGCSE/GCE exams which began in April are still on. Both groups will finish their last paper on Friday, 11th June 2021.The students have been positive during the revision and examination sessions. Let us continue encouraging them.

BTEC Experience at Level 3

BTEC stands for Business and Technology Education Council. This is a vocational qualification, which means that it has a career focus and is grounded in the world of work. BTEC is a vocational program where students study to gain skills and knowledge in independent learning, research and making presentations where they then put those skills into practice in real-life scenarios. It is regulated by an examination body known as Pearson Edexcel. This is what some of the students had to say.

‘‘I joined BTEC in term two of this year and it has been a good experience so far. I like how our assignments are research based as this has helped me to improve on my research skills. I have also learnt a lot. I enjoyed planning the valentine bake sale in February this year’’. Fiona M. Year 12Y

‘‘BTEC has been a really great and fun experience at Braeside. I have learned how to communicate better through many engaging activities with both my classmates as well as with my teachers resulting to very positive results’’. Paula M. Year 12Y

‘‘Since the start of my BTEC course 2 years ago, my experience has been a mix of both positive and challenging times which I had anticipated before starting. However, my teachers have been there to answer questions in person or via emails’’. Timothy W. Year 13Y

‘‘My BTEC experience has been life-changing; doing BTEC has been has been the best decision I ever made in life. BTEC has allowed me to develop new skills in my life, communicate better and be more confident. The freedom in BTEC is good as it allows me to plan and better manage my life. The teachers at BTEC are wonderful; they constantly give me the drive to finish my assignments and I enjoy that’’. Anthony H. Year 13Y

‘‘Taking BTEC at Braeside School has been the most amazing and memorable time of my life. I have made lifelong friends and amazing memories from organising a bake sale and working around deadlines. The teachers are nice, understanding and they relate well with us’’. Ranga C. Year 13Y

Have a nice weekend.

Regards,

Mr. Joel Ndungu
