Year 6 Week 10 Newsletter:Term 2

13th March 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian,

This week, we celebrated the Humanities Week themed ‘Make the Earth Smile.’ The students researched about various types of pollution and how to prevent them. We all agreed that we should start by making our school and home smile before we can go out to the rest of the world. We request that you encourage your child to keep their home environment clean and avoid wastage. By so doing, we will have a great impact on the Earth.

The pupils were also able to write poems and newspaper reports on pollution. Have a look at some of them…

They don’t care do they? By: Gail 6R

I see the smoke curl away into the air

They don’t care do they?

They don’t see they’re destroying

Reduce the fumes we say

They don’t care do they?

They think we’re talking to the stones

But soon enough all we’ll be is bones

Reduce the plastic we say

They don’t care do they?

They think we’re talking to the sand

But soon enough there will be no land

Save the trees we say

They don’t care do they?

They think we’re talking to the chairs

But soon enough there’ll be no air

Reduce the carbon monoxide we say

But they don’t care do they?

They think we’re talking to the trash

But soon enough we’ll all be ash

We are slowly dying

And we children are trying

To make this Earth a better place

Let’s show this world where it should face

Waves Full of Trash By: Jasmine 6Y

Walking on the beach one Sunday

Shocked at what I have seen

Waves full of trash

From the sea I once thought was clean

I saw:

A boot, a table, and a pen in a casket,

A phone, a tablet, and a card in a basket,

Some pizza, a book, and a blue base,

A rubber black yak, a phone, and a case,

Ten plastic bottles, some glasses, and a whale

A bag, another book, and a person named gale,

Some seaweed forming a perfect He

Next to the seaweed a shoelace forming an LP

I was filled with rage

It was quite an eye-opening coming-of-rage

I yelled out to the ocean

“Hey you people, stop polluting our ocean!”

Clubs

This week we will highlight the ‘Design Club.’ The aim of this club is to assist pupils develop their creativity. Pupils have been busy making masks of endangered and extinct animals.
